Upgrading

Program Descriptions
1.    Academic Upgrading
This program focuses on an ‘academic overhaul’ in Mathematics and English for students who did not complete High School and are planning to join a college program applying as mature students.

Our academic upgrading program includes:
  1. English
             1. Writing strategies
             2. Reading comprehension
             3. Listening skills
             4. Public speaking
  1. Mathematics
             1. Numeracy skills
             2. Number operations
             3. Problem solving
  1. Basic Computer Skills

Length of the program: based on initial assessment, approximately two months for each grade

2. Preparation for the GED Test

We provide tutoring in small groups to prepare students for the GED test enabling them to obtain their High School Equivalency. Based on pre-assessment, we identify and focus on students’ strengths, weaknesses and specific needs.

Length of the program: based on the initial assessment, the average time is 12 weeks of 2 to 4 hours a day tutoring and a minimum of one hour of home review, self-study, and exercises a day during the 12 weeks of the program.

3. Obtain Your High School Diploma
This program is for people who haven’t yet completed their High School education and need only a few credits to obtain their diploma. We work in association with the local school boards and ILC, helping people to complete high school and obtain their OSSD.

We provide personalized, intensive tutoring in the subjects chosen by the students, using materials supplied by the ILC in addition to materials selected by our teachers.

4. Preparation for College

This program helps students to improve their English, Math and study skills. Our curriculum provides intensive instruction, tailored to your specific needs.

Our personalized courses are carefully designed to better prepare you for the demands of college, so after this course you will be ready to face successfully this challenge.

Length of the program: 10 hours a week – computer training; 10 hours a week - academic

5. ESL for French Canadians

ESL for French Canadians program offers a full-time English program from basic to advanced levels that are designed to meet the language needs of students who have specific employment, academic and settlements goals.

English for life and employment purposes is aimed at students with a background or interest in joining school or looking for a job. Students will develop language skills that will enable them to interact in a workplace in English environment or pursue further training. This advanced level program will assist students in reading and understanding business materials, writing reports, and developing business and office vocabulary.

Oral skills will be developed through classroom presentations and discussions. Information about business will be gained through informational interviews, research assignments, and a work experience component.
